Welcome to Question Marks!
This is a weekly-ish newsletter for those who:
celebrate that some questions don’t have answers and that’s okay
have questions about how we live and love, especially when our hearts are heavy or our souls ache
want to explore questions about spirituality and faith, judgement free
may be experiencing loss and/or grief
want to explore issues of mortality and wholeness in a hurting world
embrace the wonder of love and … the love of wonder!
Why subscribe to Question Marks?
That’s a good question! And I love questions.
Our questions mark and inform some of the most pivotal and significant moments of our journeys.
Our questions help us make sense of ourselves, and our relationships and the world we share. Our questions matter.
Your questions matter.
Hi! I’m Rebecca. And I’m glad you’re here!
I started Question Marks because I have a lot of questions about life and love and loss and faith and – well, all the things.
Maybe you ask questions too, and if that’s the case, you’ve found a safe and warm and inquisitive community here.
A little about me: I’m a mom, a nana, a kayaker, a dog mama, best friend, bad cook, reader and writer, and (successfully retired) ordained elder in the United Methodist tradition. There’s more, of course, but that’s a start.
My “official bio” will tell you that I’m the author of the award-winning historical novel, Trouble the Water, based on and inspired by the life of American hero Robert Smalls. I’m honored by that; it’s a story and a journey-full-of- questions that changed my life. (You can learn more about that here if you like: Rebecca Bruff, Author)
Question Marks is emerging from my experiences of love and grief, and my own questions about mortality, the spiritual life, and the mystery and beauty of wonder. After the illness and death of my husband Tom, I recognized that while grief is very personal, it’s also universal, and maybe more conversations – and more vulnerability – could be a healing gift in our hurting spaces.
I’m learning to be more open about my ever-evolving relationship to faith, religion, and the spiritual life, including my doubts and questions, and I’m learning to hold all of that with a “holy skepticism” and thoughtful compassion.
Thank you for sharing this space, this journey, and this beautiful messy life.
Rebecca
